Who we are

This is the Inlaw Nightmares website. Our website address is: http://inlawnightmares.com/

We are a site dedicated to sharing inlaws stories and entertain users with stories about other people's inlaws.

This privacy policy is meant to inform you about the data that we gather about you while on the site and how we use and share that information.

We will not sell that information to third parties or allow them to use it for marketing purposes, unless you have given us your explicit consent.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

User registration form

When you choose to register on our site, we collect a username of your choice, a password, an email address, your gender, and nationality (the last two are optional). This information will be stored in our database until you choose to delete your account.

Contact forms

When using the contact form, your name, email and message is sent to our email address and is also stored in our database. The stored message is only used as a backup and will be deleted from the database in a maximum of one week after we reply to your message.

User submitted stories

When you submit a story through our Share your nightmare form, the content of your submission will be stored to our database. The title and content will be used to create a new story and, if you submit your gender and nationality and your inlaw's information (how they're related to you and their nationality), this will also be displayed in the front end.

Even though your stories do not contain your username, they can be seen by anyone (registered or not), and can be shared outside of our website, so we recommend that you don't share details that could allow people to identify you in your stories, such as your real name, your current location, age, or your inlaw's personal information.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We currently haven't linked our website to any analytics service.

Who we share your data with

We may include advertisement links to other sites as a mean for us to earn affiliate income. These sites have privacy policies which may differ from our own and we do not have any control over them. By clicking on those links and/or purchasing products from these sites, any information you provide will be processed according to the privacy policy of that site.

If you have any questions regarding the privacy policy of an external site, please contact that site directly for more information.

Note that we might be required by law to release information about our users or if we believe that disclosing such information is necessary in order to comply with a legal process, enforce our Terms of Service or protect our Site, users, affiliates and the general public.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you send us a message through our contact form, we will store a copy of it (name, email, message) in our database for up to a week after replying to your message.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

How you can change your data

If you have an account on this site, you can make changes to your profile information by logging in and clicking on the Your Profile link in the sidebar.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

For this purpose we use Antispam Bee.

Your contact information

In case you want to contact us with questions regarding your data, or want us to delete your account and/or send you the information we have collected from you, you can email us at privacy@inlawnightmares.com.

You can choose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings or by managing preferences in your security software.
